“I never knew until it happened to me!” From chip, to crack, to expensive nightmare….

We all put things off we know we should get sorted asap. Like renewing your home insurance before it auto-renews at twice the price, booking the car in for a service, or sorting that dripping tap before it becomes a plumber's invoice.

Most of the time, it's just an inconvenience at worst, but when it comes to something like repairing a chip in your windscreen, you definitely shouldn’t hang about. I spoke to a colleague of mine, Dug, the other day, and his story is a prime example of how important this is.

On a recent drive back from France, a passing car flicked up a stone that struck the top corner of his passenger-side windscreen. A small chip, and barely noticeable. Nothing that looked remotely like a disaster.

He knew about Optic-Kleer, and that they had a franchisee conveniently located in a local supermarket car park, and planned to drive over the morning after he and his family got home.

However, the temperature dropped overnight and, by morning, that tiny chip - the one that had barely seemed worth mentioning - had crept across the windscreen and become a full-length crack. The kind that cannot be repaired, and would mean a full windscreen replacement.

On a modern car, that bill comes to somewhere between two and a half and three thousand pounds. Dug was pretty unlucky, but it just goes to show how much call there is for a business which can turn this kind of repair around within 20-30 minutes, and prevent a minor inconvenience from turning into an expensive nightmare.

"I never knew that a chip could become a crack that quickly. It's absolutely crazy. And what I've learned is that if you get a chip on your windscreen, you go and get it done immediately!"

Dug's story is far from unusual. In fact, something very similar is happening to drivers all over the UK every single day.

Did you know that one in three UK drivers experience windscreen damage each year? With approximately 40 million cars on UK roads, that’s a whole lot of chips, cracks, and potentially costly replacements happening right now. Imagine how many occur just in your area, on every morning commute and every trip to the shops?

And it’s getting worse all the time.

I’m sure I don’t need to tell you about the state of the roads in the UK. In many ways, British drivers now suffer from the “perfect storm” when it comes to potential windscreen damage:

A wetter climate means potholes form more easily, and many are not being repaired fast enough to keep pace with the damage.

  • There are more vehicles on the road than ever before, which means more debris being thrown up at more windscreens, more frequently.
  • Gritted roads in winter, constant roadworks, and rougher road surfaces all contribute further to the problem.
  • Temperature swings - the very thing that turned Dug's chip into a crack overnight - are also becoming more frequent across the UK.

Why am I telling you this? Because:

Optic-Kleer franchisees are perfectly placed to meet that demand

The beauty of the Optic-Kleer business model lies in how it brings the service directly to the customer. Right there, in the supermarket car park, while they are already doing their weekly shop.

The repair usually only takes between 20 and 20 minutes, making it far more convenient, quick, and accessible than any visit to a garage. Most importantly, it can be the difference between a small bill – usually covered all, or in part, by their insurer – or a major expense for a new windscreen (less a hefty excess!).

As a partner in the Optic-Kleer franchise, you are given direct access to the car parks of some of the UK's biggest retail names: Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Asda, B&Q, and Homebase. Locations that an independent operator could simply never walk into alone. That ready-made footfall, combined with a service that virtually every driver will need at some point, is what makes the Optic-Kleer business model so appealing.

Nearly 9,000 customers can't be wrong

Here’s another important stat for you: Optic-Kleer currently holds close to 9,000 Google reviews, with an average rating of 4.97 out of 5.

To put that into context, a rating of 4.5 is widely considered excellent for any service business. A sustained average above 4.9, across thousands of reviews, is beyond exceptional. Almost unheard of, in fact, but it’s not the result of luck or accident, of course. It is the product of a consistently outstanding service, delivered day after day, by franchisees who take real pride in what they do. By tapping into that kind of reputation from day one, you can enjoy in weeks what most businesses take years to achieve.

New territories are available right now…. but they won’t last long.

Three new franchisees are currently going through the process of joining Optic-Kleer and will be opening in their new territories in Northamptonshire, Kent, and South Wales within the next six to eight weeks.

If you want to find out if your local territory is still available, I strongly recommend you head over to the Optic-Kleer franchise website:

Check Your Territory Now

You’ll find a really easy-to-use map of available areas, and also a detailed breakdown of the number of potential customers in that territory, along with an analysis of suitable supermarket locations where you could be trading.

It is the kind of information that allows you to make a properly informed decision, rather than a leap in the dark. The ways things are going in 2026, I wouldn’t hang about if you want to register your interest! Don’t let missing out on this opportunity be the thing you regret more than Dug not fixing his windscreen in time.

If you want to lock in your territory, or even just chat a bit more about what Optic-Kleer is all about, I’m more than happy to help.
